Hi all, yes, as you might have gathered from the title of the blog post, this is something of a farewell. Not a complete one, don't worry, I'm just moving blogging house from here to the Beard Bunker. Maybe I should explain, and to prevent this being tedious, I'll do so in the manner of a clip show with some of my favourite pictures of a sort of representative sample of my work sprinkled Jeffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13109377258517790966noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6976462473924213843.post-62113768697146102992016-12-25T08:00:00.000+00:002016-12-25T08:00:02.813+00:00Merry Christmas Everyone

A very merry Christmas and adjacent holidays to you all. May 2017 treat us all a little kinder.

In a change to our scheduled programming we're taking a seasonal plunge into winter cold and fantastical locations. Yep, we're back in Frostgrave.
This time I'm bringing a knight and an archer to the party. I decided to keep the Dark Age feel going with the knight and realised that a repurposed Rohan captain would pass muster. I always wanted a mix of fantasy races in the warband soJeffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13109377258517790966noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6976462473924213843.post-86316769328695683862016-12-15T17:24:00.001+00:002016-12-15T17:24:29.271+00:00The Future Belongs to the MadHi folks, yes, the Fury Road reference in the title means that it is our fourth and final vehicle in the Post Apocalyptic car commission.
This one, with it's girt hench engine, I decided was the personal transport of some important gang member and thus has nicer paint and less damage than the others. It can outrun anything else on the road so sees less combat... or something.

It's going to be a bit whistle-stop because these were (with the exception of the scout) some of the, how to put this politely, less exceptional sculpts... So I don't have a huge amount to say. These were all either possessing odd proportions or strange fabric flows, some Jeffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13109377258517790966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6976462473924213843.post-33580970900346692342016-11-25T09:30:00.000+00:002016-11-25T09:30:13.942+00:00Die Historic on the Fury Road! It's that time again! Spray yourself chrome and jam the pedal to the metal. It's more Mad Max-esque stuff:
This time we're going for something a little bit more ponderous in appearance. The "breacher", as I've been calling it, is built for all terrain grunt rather than top speed. Yep, along with some of the Beard Bunker folks I have been tempted into exploring that oh-so-dangerous frozen city. Wrap up warm folks, we're going to Frostgrave...
There's lots of good articles out there about Frostgrave so I won't belabour the explanation, suffice to say, it's a skirmish game on the lines of Jeffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13109377258517790966noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6976462473924213843.post-64224326272066746232016-11-10T15:24:00.001+00:002016-11-10T15:24:40.167+00:00Ride Eternal, Shiny and Chrome!Oooorrr, Rusty and Spiked as the case may be...
The minute I knew I was doing a pseudo Mad Max project (I believe these are actually becoming some sort of cultist mobile in 40k) I had to make the hedgehog. I loved that thing and knew I could make a slightly less bonkers version of it.
Starting from a - I think - Citroen of some flavour, I carved away wheel arches (and even whole sections Jeffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13109377258517790966noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6976462473924213843.post-50714584458944893112016-11-07T18:44:00.001+00:002016-11-07T18:44:31.750+00:00Oh What a Day, What a Lovely Day!Witness me! We're delving into the somewhat high octane world of Mad Max. If you've no idea what I'm talking about watch this, then get the film*, watch that, then come back. I don't mind. I'll wait...
My client had four venerable Hauler 1:43 car kits and wanted something a bit more grungy... Apparently there is some sort of jungle/swamp thing in the Brimstone setting and these two are residents of it. They're actually some of the nicer cast models in the game that I've painted so far.

I'm completely unfamiliar with the board game so I'll be focusing on the painting only!
First things first, they didn't photograph too terribly well. But assume that there's some more transitions and subtlety about them and all will be well... The models do have some Jeffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13109377258517790966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6976462473924213843.post-22749068600818806802016-10-18T19:10:00.001+01:002016-10-18T19:10:37.062+01:00Tutorial: Dealing with tiny feet in basingSo there I was, putting together some minis for a client when I came across a common problem: Tiny, tiny feet on a model that needs to be glued directly to the base. Now, I know how to solve this problem and it's fairly straightforward, hence, a small tutorial. A tutorial-ette if you will.
A join is only as strong as its contact area allows it to be. Client asked for blue jacket and red trousers with a gold stripe. The longer this combination went on for, the more it looked to me like the sort of thing dictators in South America (or a Gaddafi/Idi Amin type) would wear. So in my head he became the Supreme Generalissimo for the duration of the painting.

Unlike most of the other Flecktarn lads (they have a real name but I've forgotten it, plus, I tend to identify by paint job) these chaps are toting shotguns and some additional armour here and there. As they are something of a Jeffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13109377258517790966noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6976462473924213843.post-65298299947473213642016-09-30T10:57:00.001+01:002016-09-30T10:57:09.842+01:00Hail Hydrant!Greetings one and all, please forgive my absence, it's been one of Those Septembers. The planets aligned and everything in RealWorld(tm) seemed to happen all at once. But I am back now and with a totally-not-a Hugo Weaving to show for it!
As is usual for subtle blacks... the camera hated it but I've done my best in post! This is the painted version of the chap we were converting a little Jeffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13109377258517790966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6976462473924213843.post-61859571036752930272016-09-11T10:50:00.000+01:002016-09-11T10:50:33.445+01:00Alright, but dogs CAN look up!There I was, looking through some really cases that I hadn't opened in quite some while (you know how it is) and found a model languishing in there that I had all but forgotten about.
Yep, it's Ed! Waaay back in - oh dear god, 2013 - I painted Hasslefree mini's "totally not Shaun of Shaun of the Dead" and I started his "totally not Ed" friend too. My client has two of these rather handsome totally-not-Hugo Weaving figures and we were debating which head would go nicely on the spare. We had a few options and none of them were really going right. Fortunately, I solved that problem the Jeffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13109377258517790966noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6976462473924213843.post-53057536507659072702016-08-03T20:09:00.001+01:002016-08-10T10:30:20.278+01:00Stiff backs and shiny sabresGreetings shipmates, back again with another quick visit to my "out" tray. This time a rather lovely Death Korps/Cadian kitbash that just oozes "officer":
The donor model was the sadly long-OOP Cadian officer with the monocle and the sneer. Wonderful figure, but the client already had one and he's waaaay too distinctive to have twins of. So with a shiny-hatted Death Korps head in hand I Jeffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13109377258517790966noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6976462473924213843.post-17523246439642088962016-07-27T18:49:00.001+01:002016-07-27T18:49:30.970+01:00Hasslefree GunslingerGreetings! There are times where commission painting is a real boon. I've really liked this model for a long time but haven't ever had a reason to get one. Today though? I got to paint one, a Hasslefree "Ryan" masquerading as a gunslinger for the client's Inq28 warband.
Seriously, this model is awesome. Greetings and salutations folks, quick one for you today. A trio of grubby mechanic types from Blight Wheel Miniatures:
You may remember "Tank Spanner Girl", well, these three are companion pieces to her. Marginally less grubby, but well used all the same. I quite liked the sculpts, proportions are a bit off here and there but the design accents are really nice. I especially like Jeffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13109377258517790966noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6976462473924213843.post-50986590053944390542016-07-14T15:49:00.002+01:002016-07-14T15:49:32.058+01:00Batmobiles! 40k Style...No really, they really do seem to be Inquisitorial Batmobiles...
Today's offerings are a pair of Inquisitorial Interceptors made by Wargames Exclusive, another third party with interesting products and a loose interpretation of intellectual property...
